Box elder bugs in Toronto are a certainly a nuisance, but are they dangerous?
UFORA’s Stephen Smith sat down with the York Guardian to set the record straight about box elder bugs.
“They’re part of our natural ecosystem and every now and then they’ll have an eruption and you get lots and lots of them, but they do no serious harm,” said Smith. “It’s this time of year when they tend to congregate on people’s houses where it’s nice and warm and sunny – and that’s when people start to notice them. But there’s really no cause for concern. Even if the odd one gets in under a window or a door, they can’t really do any damage.”
